You Found Me
For those of you looking for Will Dishong of Fox Television, KTTV Fox 11 and KCOP My 13 you’ve found him. For those of you looking for Will Dishong of Naval Intelligence and the Submarine Service, you’ve found him also.
I recently retired as Vice President, Engineering & Operations, KTTV and KCOP, the Fox
-owned Television stations in Los Angeles. Despite the questionable sanity of leaving an executive job in a recession, this was my choice.
Fox was grateful for my contributions to the success of the LA stations. As I said in my resignation letter, Fox will always be number one in my heart.
Behind the strength of the Fox Network and the power of the news brand we created, KTTV became one of the most successful television stations in the country – successful in ratings, revenue and profit.
We designed and constructed high-definition studios, newsrooms and transmitter facilities and ran on-air operations second to none in quality and reliability.
I was one of the principal architects for these accomplishments and project manager for several of them. I am extremely proud of that.
After all of those accomplishments and 20 years without ever taking a two-week vacation, I decided I want to do a couple of things. First, I will take some time off and second, I want to do something else with my life and my career. I want to set out on another great adventure and this is the right time for me. I left Fox at the top of my game and on my terms. I am also proud of that.
My wife is behind me 100%. She also claims to enjoy having me around the house so you can’t believe everything she says.
Which leads me to a shameless plug, her name is Angela Shelley, she is a producer whose awards include Emmys, Golden Mics, Gracies, LA Press Club and others. The latest being two LA Press Club Awards and the Edward R. Murrow Award for Best News Documentary at the recent RTNDA. That’s her second Murrow! Congratulations honey and don’t forget
to thank me!
>> End of shameless plug and back to me. <<
As of this writing I plan to rest, exercise, eat healthy, lose weight, travel, visit my family, paint the fence, rescue a dog, remodel the kitchen and go to that reunion my old submarine crew has every year.
Then I plan to study the economy and look for opportunities coming out of the recession. I have retired from Fox, but not from life and not from my next career. I am ready for that next great adventure.
In the meantime I am taking that well deserved time off. I am sitting by the pool and a Beach Boys channel from Finland is playing on internet radio. Life is good. Sometimes strange but really, really good.
The laptop and wireless connection work well here so please, drop me an email. For the first time in 20 years I have time to answer.
Aloha,
Will
